Ten Principles for a Leadership Discipline Inspired by the Holy Spirit
- Take time to connect with the Holy Spirit in meditation, take a step back and get perspective, and give yourself a chance to listen to God talking to you, God is always talking to you, but you’re not listening, you are rushing. It’s important to rely on God for everything as a Christian leader, talking to God first and going with His Directives at every step, praying for more light even when the road ahead is clear. The example of Jesus-Christ in His Word is of the utmost importance. Only God has everything figured out, so the need to stay in touch with Him and to listen. A great leader listens, listens to God, and is in communion with the Holy Spirit, moving with His orders, and studying the life of Jesus-Christ all the time for inspiration in every situation, following the lead of the Spirit in all Humility.
- A Christian leader gets to know His people, and we are all leaders, we have to talk to each other with caring attention, and no judgmental attitude or stance. It’s important that we know each other’s lives to a certain extent so we can leverage the opportunities to share and help each other. As we go about showing reverence toward people’s lives, they will open up to us, if they feel that we will respect their privacy, and will respect the confidentiality of what they share with us.
- A Christian leader cares about the lives of others to the point that they go out of their way to protect their privacy even in board meetings, in Elders meeting, even while talking to the pastor or other officials of the church. The leader nurtures an atmosphere of love, respect, reverence for others, openness and moderation.
- The leader feeds the people, and as we are all leaders, we exhort each other, sharing Bible passages and Spiritual insights, with a spirit of humility, and with the goal to build each other, without imposing, and showboating. When we have the well being of everyone in mind, it does not matter if we do not get glory, as when the community is doing all right, the Corporate Faith is strengthened and feeds the Individual Faith that strengthened it back, we all benefit.
- The leader carries his cross just like his Master Jesus-Christ, as it takes a lot patience to wait for the effect of the Holy Spirit on the hardened hearts of humans. It takes a lot of patience to grow up to the fruitful leadership of Jesus-Christ, even to get any closer to that standard.
- The leader is not God and does not behave like God, but with the Humility of Jesus-Christ. We are not to delve into people’s lives as if we were God, but to go about making a difference by our example and our yearning to help with reserve, following what the Holy Spirit is inspiring us to do.
- The leader treats people with kindness always, not because they specially merit it, but because they are humans, and merit to be treated in a humane way. But the leader is to take firm and humble stances on what is right.
- A leader doesn’t use jokes to belittle people, is not jealous, doesn’t worry about getting all the glory, but is welcoming, empowering other people, and facilitating everyone, making sure the Gospel work advances with everyone’s constructive ideas.
- A leader always looks to see where everyone is coming from in their assertions, and used the good sides to build a progressive discussion. The leader taps into shared vision with team learning, focusing also on personal mastery and mental modeling for system thinking. A great leader has vision, can deal with complexity and shows firm commitment. A leader tries to embody the stories of the followers. This is a time for Servant Leadership, leading by example and service to others, to the community and to brothers and sisters, and society at large.
- And ultimately the leader has eyes for details. Before one can accomplish great things, you have to be faithful in small things. A great leader doesn’t walk around and see small problems and think this is beneath her or him, he/she addresses them before they become big problems. The great leader chooses his battles, does not sweat the details in some aspects, but do care about small meaningful details. You cannot walk around the church and see dirt on the ground, and just ignore it. This is the house of the Lord, you have to show reverence for it. How can you have reverence for God’s church, and see pieces of paper on the ground and walk over it? You have to do whatever you can do, right away, and be an example of leadership to others, so we can all show reverence to the house of the Lord. You cannot accomplish great things by yourself, God accomplishes great things through you. Before you can accomplish great things, you have to have reverence for God, for the little meaningful things He cares about, like the HEALTH MESSAGE. You will take care of everything that God asks you to take care of, small, great, and you will be successful, but you have to be in tune with HIM, in humility. The great leader listens, LISTENS, LISTENS, LISTENS TO THE HOLY SPIRIT, TO THE WORD OF GOD: JESUS-CHRIST, THE LIVING WORD.
